Netflix Is Now Inside Windows Media Center

Published by techspotlight at 12:05 am under Windows Vista Edit This

Last week a new Netflix button appeared inside Windows Media Center TV + Movies category.  This great addition to WMC will now allow you to browse your Netflix account and watch streaming Internet movies from their vast selection.  What makes this truly great is that it all works in the 10-foot space with your remote control.

Netflix started out as a DVD to home Internet service that would allow you to set up a queue of movies and have them delivered by mail directly to your house.  After you were done watching the movie, you would drop it back in the mail with the prepaid envelope, and when Netflix received the DVD back they would send you the next movie inline.

While Netflix still offers the physical DVD to your home service, they have been aggressively seeking the streaming Internet TV market.  There are even Netflix set-top boxes sold that do exactly what the new WMC support has.  This is a fantastic thing for Media Center users, now along with the fabulous WMC application for local DVR recordings and audio/video/pictures hub to your content, WMC users can now stream movies directly to their media box with a click of a button.
