Western Digital VelociRaptor Super High Speed HD
Released last year was Western Digital’s crown jewel called the VelociRaptor. This high tech hard drive is the big brother of the Raptor line that was released way back in 2003. The WD VelociRaptor is a 10,000 RPM (Rotations Per Minute) hard disk drive that flows data in both directions very fast. WD currently offers 2 models that are in a 3.5 inch platform with a 2.5 inch platter. The capacities available are 150 GB (gigabyte) and a huge 300 GB.
The interface boasts the fastest S-ATA II (Serial ATA 2) throughput of 3 gigabits a second. Onboard cache is a hefty 16 MB (megabytes). The VelociRaptor has been benchmarked by many, with results coming in that yield a 35% increase in speed over the standard Raptor line, and up to a 60% boost over an ordinary 7,200 RPM hard disk drive.
Prices have dropped recently, but you will still pay a premium for this performance. NewEgg currently has the 150 GB model at $179.99 and the 300 GB model at $229.99. Western Digital continually stands behind there products with an impressive 5 year warranty on these HDD’s. For more information or ordering details follow this link.
