PC, Mac, Linux Market Share

The struggling economy hasn’t seemed to hinder the sales of computers, but Linux and the open source community keep gaining more and more market share as the months go by.  Microsoft is hoping to buck that trend with their new and improved, lightweight Operating System called simply Windows 7.  This OS is currently in Beta and is expected to go into RC (Release Candidate) status some time in April.  Microsoft has yet to announce the timetable for when Windows 7 will be completed, but it is widely talked about on the Internet that it should be available to the masses sometime towards the end of the Summer months this year.

Please be aware that these percentages are based on consumers and businesses, not including servers.  The actual figures and data are provided by Global Market Share Statistics and their website can be viewed here.
