Asus VW224U 22″ LCD Monitor Review

Published by techspotlight at 12:05 am under Hardware Edit This

The Asus VW224U 22″ inch monitor has some impressive specs like a maximum resolution of 1680×1050, a viewing angle of 170 degrees horizontal and 160 degrees vertical, a response time of 2 milliseconds and a contrast ratio of 1000:1 standard mode and 5000:1 with ASCR dynamic mode.

I have been using this monitor for close to a month now and I have to say it is a pretty decent panel.  Colors are vibrant, bright and clear that makes it very easy on the eyes.  This Asus widescreen monitor has 5 Splendid Modes which are basically intelligent color presets, but I have found that they are quite gimmicky.  For day to day use, simply use the Custom User Mode and adjust the brightness and contrast levels to your liking without using the Splendid Presets which cause a funky light brightening and dimming effect when changing page views and windows.

ASCR improves the contrast ratio with deeper blacks and whiter whites, but I leave it off unless I am playing a PC game or watching a DVD on it.  The response time is one of the best I seen at only 2 ms.  There is absolutely no ghosting or artifacts whatsoever during high motion scenes.  This monitor also has built-in speakers at 2 x 1 watt.  Of course I wasn’t expecting much from these and I was right.  The speakers sound very muddy and you must turn the computer volume all the way up to hear them.  Still though, they are good to have for Windows Sounds and the like.

Overall the Asus VW224U is worth looking at if your in the market for a 22″ widescreen LCD, especially since the price was just reduced to only $159.99 after a $20 mail-in rebate.  In this price range you don’t have much choice, but this Asus, a Hanns-G and possibly an Acer LCD.  For a little more money I would recommend a panel by Samsung, you just can’t go wrong with their LCD’s.  If you would like more information or ordering details on this Asus LCD Monitor simply click this link.
