YouTube, the amazing service that lets you upload your own personal videos to their site for the global audience, has become the number third most visited website on the Internet.  YouTube was created and went live in the beginning of 2005.  The service caught on almost immediately and became and instant success.  In late 2006, Google the dominant search engine on the web, bought the company for an estimated 1.6 billion dollars.

YouTube offers millions of videos for your viewing pleasure in a wide range of channels.  I have listed below the Top 5, most viewed videos that were submitted by ordinary people and not major broadcasters or commercially done videos.  The number of views are listed in blue and represent millions of hits.

    Just a minor correction — the numbers in blue represent views, not millions of views. Were it in millions of views, that would mean that the Evolution of Dance video has been viewed roughly 106 million million times, which is 1.06 x 10^14 views.     But, great list otherwise. Love all of these videos.
