Remove System Tray Icons With Windows Vista

The System Tray located right next to the clock on the Taskbar can become cluttered with icons and running processes over time.  With Windows Vista it is now possible to hide some or all of them if you so desire, to free up space and have a more clean look.  To do this, follow this simple and effective 5 step guide below.

  1. Right click on any empty space on the Taskbar and select “Properties.”
  2. Click on the “Notification Area” tab.
  3. Put a check in the box “Hide inactive icons” then click on “Customize…”
  4. Navigate through each Icon and then under the Behavior heading, select either Hide when inactive, Hide or Show for each one.
  5. Click OK on both open windows.
