ooVoo Report: A New 6 Way Video Conferencing Client
Considering the success of VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol), it’s no surprise more and more companies are trying to cash in on this market. Skype and Vonage are the current leaders in this category, but the new ooVoo is adding features to try and grab some of the people using other services. This all leads us back to the same problem we have had for a decade. Everyone you contact, must be using the same Instant Messaging application, as all of these are non-standard.
ooVoo Features
* 6 Way Video Conferencing
* Send Video Messages
* Record Your Video Chats
* Includes Vista Sidebar Gadget
* Multiple Text Chat In One Window
ooVoo Negatives
* Horrible Black Interface
* No Way To Change Appearance
* Drops Calls Intermittently
* Video Unable To Be In Full Screen
* Voice Quality Not As Good As Skype
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a multiple video application, ooVoo may be your answer. I have found in my testing that the video quality was excellent and worked well. That is about it, it seemed sluggish and quirky at times. It really annoyed me I could not change the appearance of all the windows. For that matter, it has very few customization options. After a 30 day trial you are bumped down to only a 3 way video chat. Some people have claimed that it can install toolbars in your browser, if you are not careful when running setup. Give it a shot if your interested, but I can tell you, you are not missing much. I will stick with Yahoo! and Skype, and so has my family.
