Chat Abbreviations Explained

Published by techspotlight at 12:50 am under Internet Edit This

With the popularity of email, chat rooms, instant messengers and forums, people have devised short abbreviations to denote longer words and sentences using very few letters.  The problem is most of these letters mean nothing to the common person.  I don’t know how many times I have had to explain certain abbreviations to others.  I have compiled a list below of some of the most common ones you will come across time and time again and there meaning.

ADN = any day now
AFK = away from keyboard
B4N = bye for now
BBL = be back later
BRB = be right back
BTW = by the way
DIKU = do i know you
F2F = face to face
FWIW = for what it’s worth
FYI = for your information
GL = good luck
GMAB = give me a break
HAGN = have a good night
HTH = hope this helps
IHU = i hear you
IMO = in my opinion
IRL = in real life
ITA = i totally agree
JK = just kidding
KIT = keep in touch
L8R = later
LHO = laughing head off
LOL = laughing out loud
MTF = more to follow
NP = no problem
OIC = oh i see
OMG = oh my god
PAW = parents are watching
PM = private message
ROTFL = rolling on the floor laughing
SOT = short on time
SU = shut up
SUP = whats up
TA = thanks again
THX = thanks
TIA = thanks in advance
TTT = thought that, too
TY = thank you
WB = welcome back
WFM = works for me
WTG = way to go
YW = your welcome

There are quite a bit more abbreviations people make up, so if you come across ones you don’t know and you see these strange letter combinations just ask the person who wrote it.  They will more than likely be glad to tell you.
